Gadsby-Dolly opens her First Community Centre at Bamboo #3
The community of Bamboo Grove #3 received a newly-refurbished Community Centre which is located at Second Street, Bamboo #3 Settlement, Valsyn on Wednesday 18th November, 2015. In addition to being a momentous occasion for the community, the Re-Dedication Ceremony also marked the first Community Centre commissioned by Dr the Honourable Nyan Gadsby-Dolly in her capacity as Minister of Community Development, Culture and the Arts.
Over 100 residents attended the Re-Dedication Ceremony, which was chaired by Susan Corbett - Director, Community Development Division. The one-storey facility is equipped with an air-conditioned auditorium, a stage for performances, specialised lighting, dressing rooms, a kitchen, classrooms and has provisions for the differently-abled.
Even in the celebratory atmosphere, Gadsby-Dolly took the opportunity to speak about good governance of the facility, “Proper management, consistent administration policies and maintenance procedures are critical to maximising the use of these community centres.”
The Minister also spoke of the strategic direction for Community Centre openings, “It is our Government’s intention to focus on opening Community Centres that are currently at advanced stages of construction. We understand the important role that Community Centres can play in shaping our country’s future.”
In his expression of thanks, Bamboo Grove #3 resident, Mr. Navindra Babwah, conveyed his own sentiments on the community’s future, “This facility is for the young ones in our community. We hope that they will have a better future. We would like to thank the Ministry of Community Development, Culture and the Arts and look forward to partnering for our community’s initiatives.”
The Community Centre Construction and Refurbishment Programme falls under the purview of the Ministry of Community Development, Culture and the Arts and its objective is to provide modern community facilities throughout Trinidad. The community centres of Gasparillo/Santa Cruz, North Manzanilla and Beetham have all been earmarked for opening before the end of 2015.
