The HIV/AIDS Unit of the Ministry of Community Development, Culture and the Arts, in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Development and Family Services, hosted a special outreach on the Brian Lara Promenade in Port of Spain on December 1, 2016, to mark World AIDS Day. The event was held under the theme, “Hands Up for HIV Prevention.”
The Ministry’s HIV/AIDS Co-ordinator, Keitha Kennedy presented a booth, which provided valuable information on HIV and AIDS, including prevention, testing, infection and how to deal with stigmatization.
Other participating organizations were also present on the Promenade including:

- North West Regional Health Authority, NWRHA
- Geriatric Adolescent Partnership Programme
- Retirees Adolescent Partnership Programme
- Rescue Mission
- MIC Institute of Technology
- Civilian Conservation Corps
- Family Planning Association
There was also free HIV, blood pressure and blood sugar testing for members of the public.
Visitors to the event, including Beverly Reid-Samuel, the Ministry’s Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary, were well entertained by the sounds of tassa drums, with performances by Orlando Octave, Myron B and Moko Jumbies.
The Ministry was pleased to partner with the Ministry of Social Development and Family Services in this initiative aimed primarily at the prevention of HIV and AIDS.
