Nigerian contingent of officials and artists to be hosted by the Minister & the Ministry of the Arts & Multiculturalism for Carnival 2012
The Minister of the Arts and Multiculturalism, the Honourable Winston Peters, supported by the Ministry and its Division of Culture, will host some 22 members of a contingent of Nigerians, comprising senior government officials and artists for Carnival celebrations this year. The visit will take place during the period Thursday February 16 to (Ash) Wednesday February 22, 2012.
Among others the delegation includes Chief Edem Duke, the Nigerian Minister of Tourism, Culture and National Orientation, Mr. George Ufot, Director of Culture and Mr. Johnson Odekina, Director of Tourism.
It is expected that the delegation will not only participate in the Trinidad and Tobago Carnival, but hold interactive meetings with local officials on strategies that would enhance bilateral relations on Culture and Tourism. Also scheduled for the visit are tours of a range of cultural sites and institutions. Moreover, the visit is being hailed as a fact finding mission as Nigeria seeks to improve and expand its own Abuja and Calabar Carnivals.
This week’s visit is being facilitated after mutually beneficial relations were cultivated following the November 2011 tour of a Trinidad and Tobago delegation, which was invited to participate in Nigeria’s Abuja Carnival.
