We are gathered here today to celebrate the life of a true patriot and cultural ambassador, Joyce Wong Sang.
On behalf of everyone at the Ministry of Community Development, Culture and the Arts, I would like to express the deep sense of loss that we feel right now.
Joyce Wong Sang not only pioneered the Prime Minister’s Best Village Trophy Competition but she also served communities, their members and their traditions and culture.
From 1963 to 1986, Joyce Wong Sang moulded the programme birthed from the Father of our Nation, into what it is today – one of the most transformational and long-standing competitions in our nation’s history.
Mrs. Wong Sang brought a distinct touch of class and elegance in all her undertakings. Her joy came from improving the lives of others. Her pride stood firm in who we are as a people, our talents, and our unique heritage. She revelled in her ancestry and dedicated her life to the uplifting of not only the Chinese community but the national community as well.
On Sunday, the Ministry will be launching Best Village 2017 in honour of her life and her work.
With a sense of reminiscence and revitalisation, we have refocused our energies to ensure that her legacy lives on in the programme and that participants and their respective communities reap long-term benefits just as she had envisioned.
To her family and friends, thank you for sharing her with the nation and know always, that she will always be remembered for her spirited resolve and passion for our culture and heritage.
Let us surge onwards with the knowledge and assurance that she impacted our ministry, communities everywhere, citizens and our development as a nation.
Rest in Peace.
